A remarkably spacious period coachman and grooms cottage and coach house that were combined many years ago to create a comfortable and attractive home of great character, today found at the head of an exclusive cul de sac on the western edge of the this sought after village with all amenities and beautiful open countryside nearby.
Relatively little of the history of The Coach House is known for certain, however, it is understood that this property was once the Coachman and Grooms Cottage together with the Coach House (the western end of the present house) that probably belonged to Fir Tree House, a very fine classic Georgian house next door but one to the west. Just as possible is an association with the pre Georgian Rising Sun Coaching Inn that stood a little to the east north east of this house and was demolished and replaced as recently as the 1930’s. Local rumour has it that Fir Tree House is the favourite but we are not so sure. Whichever tale you prefer is of little real consequence and one story or another takes nothing away from this charming home.
As cottages go the accommodation is quite logically arranged with just the right amount of rambling. There are of course beamed ceiling, a curly staircase with a curious Georgian newel post, ledged and braced doors with strap hinges and Norfolk latches, massive stone walls and deep sill windows - several of which have window seats. A visit to the front of the cottage that is accessed via the close known as Kelways, will tell little of the space and the character and while it is so clichéd to labour the point please allow us to show you around so that you can really enjoy this property properly.
